چکیده

The complexity of large-scale scientiic simulations often necessitates the combined use of multiple software packages developed by diierent groups in areas such as adaptive mesh manipulations, scal-able algebraic solvers, and optimization. Historically , these packages have been combined by using custom code. This practice inhibits experimentation with and comparison of multiple tools that provide similar functionality through diierent implementations. The ALICE project, a collaborative eeort among researchers at Argonne National Laboratory, is exploring the use of component-based software engineering to provide better interoperability among numerical toolkits. We discuss some initial experiences in developing an infrastructure and interfaces for high-performance numerical computing.

Large-scale Inversion of Magnetic Data Using Golub-Kahan Bidiagonalization with Truncated Generalized Cross Validation for Regularization Parameter Estimation

In this paper a fast method for large-scale sparse inversion of magnetic data is considered. The L1-norm stabilizer is used to generate models with sharp and distinct interfaces. To deal with the non-linearity introduced by the L1-norm, a model-space iteratively reweighted least squares algorithm is used. The original model matrix is factorized using the Golub-Kahan bidiagonalization that proje...

Semi-automatic Generation of Grid Computing Interfaces for Numerical Software Libraries

There is an immediate need to develop Grid interfaces for a large set of numerical software libraries, in order to make popular software of today available in the computing infrastructure of tomorrow. As this development work tend to be both tedious and error-prone, this contribution presents a semi-automatic process for generating the interfaces. The underlying principle is to use a front-end ...

Lattice numerical simulations of hydraulic fractures interacting with oblique natural interfaces

The hydraulic fracturing propagation is strongly influenced by the existence of natural fractures. This is a very important factor in hydraulic fracturing operations in unconventional reservoirs. Various studies have been done to consider the effect of different parameters such as stress anisotropy, toughness, angle of approach and fluid properties on interaction mechanisms including crossing, ...
